What I'm Reading

There are so many great blogs out there. If I keep finding more I'll probably never need to go anywhere else on the Internet. That would be a great day.

Anyway, here are some great ones I've been reading recently!

Jim Gerrie's blog intersects with a lot of my interests. He resurrects old BASIC programs that were printed in various magazines and books in the 70s and 80s, and also does work preserving lost media. The posts are long and detailed, but they're still very readable. If vintage programming is your bag, this is a great one to check out. And he's made every game playable online!

Games That Weren't. Speaking of lost media, this site discusses games that are lost or were never released to the public, preserving them for future generations. Some of the posts are longer than others, but that makes sense considering that some games have more documentation than others. This is also the work of a large community of people and there are frequent updates. Also, whenever a prototype is found, they upload it for play whenever possible, like this unreleased Ewok game.

I Might as Well Explain the Joke is a monthly blog that digs deep into old jokes that seemed to permeate popular culture. It's part history and part cultural analysis, weaving between both very well. There are lots of sources to add to your TBR pile, too. There are a handful to read through now, and the author takes requests (within reason), too, so if there's something you've always been curious about, reach out!

So there are a few blogs I've been reading through recently. What's nice is that each has a good backlog for me to dig through, so I've got the next few weeks settled. If you have blogs you enjoy, consider writing a post and sharing them with the world!
