Friday Roundup

On Fridays when I have time (or remember), I'll post a roundup of things I've consumed this week.

Read

An interesting blog on game mechanics. It's part of a larger series too, so there's plenty to read if you're interested.

Watched

A two hour documentary on getting a 16-player games of a Gameboy FPS from 1991. It was fascinating. As I said before, vintage computing fans find ways to have a lot of fun.

Heard

I've been playing a lot of Jimmy Eat World on vinyl this week. Maybe the current state of the world reminds me of the early 2000s. There was a lot of uncertainty then, too. Overall they're a hopeful band.

Played

Rosewater is my current game of choice. I posted about it on Bluesky, but the game is very engaging in a lot of ways. The player has a lot of choice in how to solve problems (how many times have you wanted to resort to violence but the game wouldn't let you?), the production value is top notch, and the stoy is captivating, with enough twists and turns to be compelling without being convoluted.
